UNHEARD of!

A Mutare man last week stunned the Mutare Civil Magistrates’ Court when he applied for maintenance from his ex-wife when he is not staying with the children.

Newstern Dzvairo appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Purity Gumbo applying for maintenance from his ex-wife, Beauty Nehumba who is staying with the two school-going children after their divorce.

Nehumba said Dzvairo was bitter that he was sacked from work because of his bed-hopping tendencies at his former workplace and was now trying to milk his ex-wife through the frivolous maintenance application.

Despite not paying anything as child support, Dzvairo had the guts to approach the courts demanding US$134 for the maintenance of the two children.

“You are a disgrace to manhood. How can you demand money from me, yet I am the one who is looking after your children? How can you be that wicked? You should be a real man.

“All along I thought you are reasonable, but you have shown everyone that you are shallow minded. You don’t even know what your children are eating and facing, yet you are bitter over me. Grow up!” said Nehumba while outside the court.

Dzvairo said he wanted the money to pay for his children’s school fees since he is no longer employed.

“I am no longer employed and it is hard for me to raise their school fees. I was wondering if she could chip in and help since she is gainfully employed,” said Dzvairo.

He said the total fees for the children is US$800 and he will pay US$134 which is equal to the amount that he was applying for maintenance for from Nehumba.

Ms Gumbo dismissed the application, saying the person staying with the children is the only one who should apply for their maintenance.
