City Queens in dream season opener

MUTARE City Queens started on a high note when they dismissed Harare-based side Beta Queens 37-28 in their opening match of the season.

The match was played at Sakubva Beit Hall netball courts last Saturday.

Their youthful gaffer, Simba Nenhunzi, is hopeful that his charges will continue with the same fighting spirit throughout the season.

This weekend they will face Tomlison Queens.

Nenhunzi said the win motivated his team. Despite being newcomers, City Queens could pose a threat to the Harare-based side.

““The players are gaining experience by each and every day. We can beat any team this time around. We are working very hard as a team. We have set ourselves a target of finishing on top five on the log. Now that we have started well, I think the target is achievable,” he said.

A total of seven matches were played last week.

Support Unit beat Ruwa 48-26 and will be targeting another two points as they take on Harare City. New comers, Golden Valley who suffered a 15-64 humiliation at the hands of ZRP Tomlison will rest this weekend as all the police teams are not playing any league match as they are preparing for the Commissioners Gala.

The correctional services team will play host to Black Rhinos.  The correctional girls are coming in as favourites as they are carrying a 50-40 win against Waru Waru.

ZDF shot to the top of the log following their win against Waru Waru.

After losing their first game against league débutantes, Ngezi Platinum, Ruwa will hope for a positive result when they square off with ZDF Queens.

Ruwa received a 48-26 thumping at the hands of Mhondoro-based side, Ngezi Platinum. The game pitting ZRP Harare Province and Golden Valley has been postponed as the police side is preparing for the police games next week.

Zimbabwe National Super League secretary, Agnes Chiroodza, said all the teams managed to fulfil their fixtures and commended on the level of competition among teams.

“We have started well this season. We hope that no team will drop-off this season. I am very happy with the level of competition that the teams displayed so far.

“This coming week, all ZRP teams will not play until Week Four as they will be preparing for the Commissioner’s Gala,” she said.
