A 45-YEAR-OLD Chisumbanje teacher last week was arrested and hauled before the courts after being found in possession of ivory and bullets in his car.
The suspect Bruce Moyana was arraigned before Chipinge magistrate Mr Vuso Gapara facing two counts of contravening Section 128 of Parks and Wildlife Management as well as possessing live ammunition without a permit.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on $200 bail with usual reporting conditions of staying at his given address and not to interfere with witness until the finalisation of the matter. It is the State case that on May 8, police officers received a tip off that the accused was in possession of ivory, whose value could not be quantified at the time of going to print.
The detectives visited his place of residence in Masunda village under Chief Garahwa and conducted a search. After conducting a search of his vehicle, the dragnet squad found ivory and eight live rounds of ammunition of an AK 47 riffle.
The bullets and ivory were hidden at the back of the driver’s seat in his Nissan Hardbody truck. Moyana was eventually arrested. “The accused was arrested and ivory and bullets will be produced in court as exhibit,” he said.
Moyana was represented by Mr Langton Mhungu of Matutu, Kwirira and Associates and the case was postponed to a later date for routine remand.
