IN a bid to accelerate the Covid-19 vaccination drive, the Ministry of Health and Child Care is targeting to set up centres at major retail shops and busy places in Chipinge District to ensure that more people are inoculated.

Chipinge District Medical Officer, Dr Brian Makumbe confirmed the development, saying the move will help them to raise awareness among the public as well as make accessing the available jabs convenient to everyone.

He added that the uptake of vaccination is increasing in the district as evidenced by the numbers of those seeking the doses.

In Chipinge urban, vaccination points were only available at the hospital and selected council clinics.

“The response is quite good and people are getting vaccinated. As a district, we have targeted major retail shops such as OK Supermarket and other big retailers where we will pitch our stands and have the vaccine available to the people.

“This week our hospital officials pitched a tent at OK Supermarket and the response was very encouraging,” said Dr Makumbe.

Residents interviewed by The Manica Post hailed the move to increase vaccination centres around the district.

Mr Adonis Toronga of Usanga suburb, who was vaccinated today said: “I went into town in the morning with no plans to get vaccinated, but decide to get the jab when I went to OK Supermarket because I found it convenient.”

Another resident, Mr Freeman Dhumisayi said he was vaccinated without a hassle.
