Chipinge revels in Matione triumph The victory parade for Matione Primary's victorious football team was a spectacle

A COLOURFUL spectacle enveloped Chipinge today as a victory parade was held to congratulate Matione Primary School whose football team were crowned the champions of Manicaland before representing the province with distinction at the national tournament recently.

After conquering the province, the team went on to compete at the national contest held in Bulawayo where they agonisingly lost in the dreaded penalty shootout in the finals.

They scooped silver medals.

The victory parade procession was led ZIFA Manicaland fixtures secretary, Innocent Mlilo, who presented T-Shirts to the boys who made Chipinge proud.

“This is just a token of appreciation in recognition of the young boys’ outstanding achievement. We are excited about the potential the boys possess and if that talent can be nurtured then they can go very far with the game,” he said.

Meanwhile, ZIFA Eastern Region Division One pacesetters, GreenFuel have said they are monitoring Matione Primary School football team’s performance.

“We are delighted with how the school is scouting young talent. We are keen to tap into those seams of talent abundant in Chipinge,” said club chairman, Enias Mbanje.

Matione Primary School’s football team received $20 000 for their efforts.

Another Chipinge-based school, Garahwa Primary, is making waves in netball after being crowned provincial champions.
