Chipinge produces another budding engineer

WONDERS never cease to happen in the small eastern town of Chipinge insofar as engineering is concerned.

After the emergence of a 25-year-old budding technician Donald Mazwati Mlambo, who caused waves with his drone and amplifier innovations, the town has seen the birth of another youthful creative engineer, Agreement Mavhaiso.

He is a Form Three student at Chipinge High School.

The 16-year-old Mavhaiso has designed an electrified tin opener that can be used for home and industrial purposes.

Mavhaiso, who is the last child in a family of six, ventured into his new trade in 2017 when he designed a motorised window cleaner.

In an interview with The Manica Post, Mavahaiso said he drew inspiration from a friend who was into engineering.

“We were in Form Two when my friend Jethro Dhuze encouraged me to do creative designs. Jethro had designed a motorised window cleaner,” he said.

He said his passion for engineering grew after scooping an award.

“I also designed a motorised window cleaner like Jethro and won first prize at the Chipinge science expo. This spurred me to aim for greater innovations,” he said.

“That is when I started to design a simplified electric tin opener. I wanted something that is healthy and friendly to low-income earners, but which could also be used for industrial purpose too. The tin opener is safe to use. I am also working on my own version of an electric toothbrush,” added Mavhaiso.
