43-YEAR-OLD Chipinge man died on admission at St Peter’s Hospital after an unprovoked attack with stones and sticks by a fugitive teenager.

The victim – Ndiripo Sigauke, of also of Chisavane village under Chief Musikavanhu in Chisumbanje, Chipinge – was on his way home from a drinking binge.

Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the incident which occurred last Saturday afternoon. The suspect Simbarashe Sithole (17), also of Chisavane village, has since vanished from the area prompting police to declare him a fugitive from justice.

“Sigauke was on his way home from a bottle store at Chisavane business centre when he met Simbarashe Sithole at Vhandira Majoko’s fields. Both were drunk, and Sithole then started accusing Sigauke of disrespecting him. He then took a stick and assaulted Sigauke all over the body with it. Sigauke tried to escape, but Sithole pursued and tripped him and further assaulted him with sticks and stones. Sigauke sustained a swollen head and lost consciousness in the process.

“Upon realising that Sigauke was unconscious, Sithole vanished from the scene and is still at large,” said Insp Kakohwa.

Insp Kakohwa added: “Sigauke was noticed lying down on the ground by a passer-by Mariah Tsoka (47), who was on her way to a nearby borehole to fetch water. She then rushed to alert Sigauke’s wife, Eunice Musapingura (35), who rushed to the scene and noticed that her husband had regained consciousness.

“She asked him what he had happened and Sigauke narrated his unprovoked ordeal at the hands of Sithole. He was taken to St Peters Hospital and died on admission as his condition had deteriorated”.

He said police attended the scene and recovered the murder sticks and stones.

Sigauke’s body was taken to Chipinge district hospital for post mortem. Insp Kakohwa appealed to members of the public for information leading to the arrest of Sithole.
