CONTROVERSIAL musician Hosiah Chipanga has exuded his gospel music singing finesse when he featured and added a midas touch in upcoming musician James Gondo’s forthcoming album, Focus on Christ.

The album is due for release this month-end.

Chipanga, who is known for his satiric and pin-pointing sungura hits, features on the title track “Focus on Christ”, “Kurarama kwedu” and “Mushumiri”.

Gondo, who has so far released three other albums, “Farirai Mwari”, “Kurudziro” and “Vananguwe”, believes the inclusion of Chipanga will make his forthcoming project a cut above the rest.

Chipanga, calls himself “God’s messenger” a belief through which he founded his own church MAPIPI.

MAPIPI stands for Messiahs Apostolic Prophetic Inspired People’s Institute.

Chipanga said he has always been a gospel singer although he presents his music in a secular and satiric fashion. Gondo, who is the founder and leader of The Living Testimony, described Chipanga as his mentor.

“I believe this album will turn the tables. I believe I am destined for greater heights. It is an honour to work with an experienced and highly talented artiste like Hosiah Chipanga. We are having a great time in the studio. The three collaborations will certainly make a positive impact in the gospel music fraternity. This time I wish to improve on my marketing so I will line up countrywide gigs to market my new project. I also intend to release a DVD album to accompany the forthcoming album,” he said.

Chipanga chipped in: “I have always been a gospel artiste through and through. I am a preacher by calling, and most of my songs are gospel. I have lost count of the gospel songs I have released. Gospel music is my life, it’s my diet. It is a refreshing development that I have been roped in by Gondo and I believe this new collaboration will reach places if well marketed.”

Some of Chipanga’s past gospel tracks include “Nekuda kwaMwari”, “Simba renyu ngariuye”, “Mwari baba ndovanoziva”, “Caanan”, “Taiona moto (Dai pasina kupindira kwaIshe)” and “Wematenga”, which was one of his first gospel tracks that featured on the Independence special compilation album in 1980.

It was compiled by Teal Records Company which was later renamed Gramma.
