CHINESE Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Guo Shaochun is expected to officiate at the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce Manicaland business awards slated for tonight (Friday) at Golden Peacock Villa Hotel.

The ZNCC this week revealed that they had finalised the list of nominees for this year’s awards after a rigorous adjudication process. The awards event will be held under the theme: “Expanding horizon: Dynamic solutions for economic turnaround”.

The awards are meant to honour outstanding companies and businesspersons, who excelled in their business endeavours for the past year.

ZNCC regional manageress for Manicaland and Chiredzi, Ms Perpetual Guwila said that organisations and individuals will be honoured in 13 categories.

The categories include the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Champion which will honour an organisation that has achieved outstanding results through key initiatives that demonstrate leadership and commitment to excellence in corporate social responsibility.

Other categories are businessman/woman of the year, ICT innovation, tertiary institution, financial institution supporting msme, rural businessperson of the year, public enterprise, young entrepreneur, enterprise development support, business leadership and lifetime achievement.

“The final list of nominees is almost complete and we will unveil it next week. We are expecting Mr Shaochun to be the guest of honour at this year’s edition and we will notify you if there are any changes. Preparations are at an advanced stage. We applaud the support rendered by the corporate sector,” she said.

In last year’s awards, Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company excelled after they walked away with the Sustainable Development Goal Champion award, while the company’s chief executive, Dr Moris Mpofu scooped the business leadership award.

In the SGD champion category, the diamond mining company outshone Plan International and Tendai Chitowa Foundation. Leading local radio station Diamond FM came out tops in the business communicator of the year. Mr Isaiah Musabayana of Eat and Lick scooped the businessman of the award. Rateable Investments director Mrs Rachel Mugwagwa outshone Orpah Chikoka of Jack and Jill and Nomsa Chiadzwa of Kiddies College to scoop the businesswoman of the year award. In the exporter of the year category, Tanganda Tea Company emerged winners while Willowton Group came out tops in the manufacturing category.

Dorowa Mine emerged victors in the mining category. Mega Market Private Ltd was the company of the year while Tongaat Hullet won the enterprise development support award. Leading network provider Econet came out tops in the Information and communication category while Tinmac Motors emerged tops in the transport and logistics award. Silas Kaja of top quality panel beaters won in the young entrepreneur of the year category.
