Change of guard at 32 Infantry Battalion

LIEUTENANT Colonel Patrick Mhlanga is the new Officer Commanding 32 Infantry Battalion after taking over from Lieutenant Colonel Anderson Chibvongodze who has been moved to take up the post of Commanding Officer Camp at Army Headquarters in Harare.

Speaking at the handover and takeover parade held last week Commander 3 Infantry Brigade General G Chitsva, said Zimbabwe National Army is a key pillar in guaranteeing national stability.

He also praised the two commanders, describing them as of high caliber senior officer of unquestionable loyalty and whose dedication to duty is beyond reproach.

“Lt Col Chibvongodze is an accomplished senior officer with vast experience. In the past 20 years, he held several command and staff appointments.

“He has been Platoon Commander 31 Infantry Battalion, Training Officer, Course Officer and Adjutant at ZS Inf, Officer Commanding 41 Infantry Battalion, Chief Instructor at RTD, Directing Staff JSC, GSO2 (Plans) JSC, Head of Wing JSC, Directing Staff and Team Leader at Joint Command and Staff Course.

“Lt Col Chibvongodze was awarded the Independence medal, UNAVEM medal, ten year service medal, Mozambican campaign medal and the DRC campaign medal.

“His successor Lt Col Patrick Mhlanga is a senior officer of great repute. Throughout his illustrious career, he has displayed a higher sense of loyalty and dedication to duty.

“He served in various levels of command where he distinguished himself extremely well. He was also Directing Staff senior division at Zimbabwe Staff College.

“ He had a stint with the Namibian Staff College under Zimbabwe Military Training team.

“He is a strict disciplinarian known for his demand for soldering of the highest caliber and first class standards.

“I have no doubt that 32 Infantry Battalion and the district will benefit immensely during his stint here,” said Brigadier Chitsva.

Lt Col Chibvongodze who was credited for improving the relations between the military and members of the public in Rusape, said it was challenge and an eye opener to lead 32 as it was his first time to command a fully-fledged battalion.

Lt Colonel Mhlanga said he will discharge his duties with professionalism, diligence, honesty, loyalty and discipline.
