SUGAR bean farmers in the Chipangayi area of Chipinge South are expecting a bumper harvest this year owing to an extended cold spell compared to last year.

Most farmers are expecting at least two tonnes per hectare.

The sugar bean bumper harvest is expected to boost food security and nutrition as well as improve the livelihoods of local villagers.

Chipinge Farmers’ Association chairman, Mr Skhumbuzo Thondlana, said their efforts to increase crop productivity in line with the National Development Strategy 1 is bearing fruit.

He also attributed the successful farming season to enough water supply from Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa).
