BUHERA district says it has put in place all that is needed for the Copa Coca-Cola boys Under-15 boys and girls football tournament provincial finals pencilled for 27-28 June at Mamunyadza Secondary School.

The tournament started at zonal level before going to the district competition and today most of the provinces are expected to host their provincial finals to determine their representatives at the national finals from July 12-14 in Zvishavane.

Buhera district head in charge, Ranganai Chikomo, said they are ready for the kick-off and are optimistic the winning schools will do the province proud at the national finals.

“We are prepared and ready to host the provincial finals. We have renovated our grounds at Mamunyadza. Eight grounds will be in use on the day. We hope as Manicaland province we will make it this time around at the national finals. Last time our girls came close so we are quite hopeful we will bring both trophies to Manicaland,” said Chikomo.

The 2017 Copa Coca-Cola Under-15 girls’ finalists and Manicaland Province representatives Mamunyadza Secondary School have stressed that their number one target at this tournament is to grab the title from defending champions Chidyamakono High School of Masvingo.

Mamunyadza coach Albert Mutandwa declared his charges ready for the provincial finals.

“Obviously we were disappointed last year but we have learnt our lessons and we have corrected all our mistakes.  We were very excited when we qualified for the finals because that was the biggest challenge in a province with many good teams, and now we are aiming at the title. That is our priority. We are looking to play even better this time and surpass our last year’s achievements. We are very much prepared and we are confident that we will do it, “said Mutandwa.

Mamunyadza High became the first team from Manicaland to reach the finals of the Copa Coca Cola schools girls’ football competition last year. Since the inception of the girls’ competition in 2011, no school from Manicaland has ever reached the finals. Mamunyadza lost 1-0 to the defending champions Chidyamakono.

The hosts, Buhera district will be represented by the provincial defending champions Mamunyadza, Muzokomba, Mukodza and Mutasa High School in the girls’ category while Hande, Muzokomba and Murambinda will be in the boys’ category.

Mutare district are still to play their district games.
