RAPING his eight-year-old nephew landed a Buhera man (47) in court.

Embedzai Mukombe of Nechishaye Village under Chief Chamutsa’s area of Buhera recently appeared before Chipinge magistrate, Mrs Elizabeth Hanzi facing rapes charges. He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to January 5.

He was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecuting, Mr Timothy Katsande, said sometimes in October, Mukombe met the complainant on her way to a grinding mill at the nearby shops and exchanged greetings.

“Mukombe and the complainant’s mother are related. After exchanging greetings, Mukombe asked to assist the complainant to carry the maize to the grinding mill and she complied.

“While returning, Mukombe proposed love to the complainant and she turned him down. He then persuaded the complainant to use a bushy path that leads to their homestead. Along the way, Mukombe dragged the complainant into the bush and raped her. She tried to scream for her help, but no-one heard her cries,” said Mr Katsande.

He ordered the girl not to tell anyone what had happened. Mr Katsande said upon arriving home, the complainant noticed that her daughter was having difficulties in walking and questioned her.

The complainant revealed everything to her and a police report was made at Birchenough Bridge Police Station leading to Mukombe’s arrest.
