FORMER Castle Lager Premiership outfit Buffaloes are expected to make a bold statement of their intentions to rejoin the top flight league when they sit down on Wednesday to elect a credible club executive that will run the day-to-day affairs of the club.

The elective meeting, which starts at 2pm, will be held at Herbert Chitepo Barracks in Mutare.

Buffaloes have been the flagship football team for the eastern border city and the province of Manicaland during the years they have been in and out of the domestic Premiership.

However, last season Buffaloes were a pale shadow of the once feared outfit they have always been each time they took part in the Eastern Region Division One League.

In an interview, outgoing chairman Tendai ‘Mheta’ Chitowa, who might as well be reelected in the same capacity on Wednesday, confirmed all posts save for two are up for grabs.

Buffaloes’ life member’s position that belongs to long serving army side administrator Zechariah Zibuke and that of treasurer that is reserved for 3 Brigade accounts personnel will not be contested for.

The Mutare businessman Chitowa said all former players and coaches that once served at Buffaloes are also invited to take part in this election.

“We are going to have an AGM on Wednesday next week. The programme starts with the outgoing executive giving a report of how things have been going on last season and that includes the financial statements.

“We are then going to have elections for the new executive. All positions save for two are up for grabs. We will also confirm the position on the team’s new home ground for the 2019 season. Given that Manica Diamonds could be using Vengere Stadium as their home ground Buffaloes is likely going to shift to Mutare Showgrounds,’ said Chitowa.

This years’ Eastern Region Division One League is likely to be highly competitive given the number of potential championship contenders that include returnees Mutare City Rovers, unpredictable lowveld outfit Green Fuel, newly assembled Masvingo United and Buffaloes.
