THE Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry is seized with crafting the principles of the Whistle Blowers Bill that is aimed at protecting those who expose corruption.

Speaking at the ministry’s strategic planning workshop at a local hotel this morning, Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Honourable Ziyambi Ziyambi, said: “Work under the Constitutional alignment process is ongoing and it is my pleasure to say that the Ministry has five Bills that are currently undergoing Parliamentary processes and another seven Bills that are in different stages before submission to Parliament.

“Further to this, the Ministry is currently seized with crafting the principles of the Whistle Blowers Bill. The Bill, among other features, is positioned to protect those who expose corruption.”

He said Zimbabwe remains committed to its human rights obligations under the various International and Regional Instruments.

“Despite constrains brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021, the Ministry has successfully coordinated the finalisation of the country’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Third Cycle Report. The Report was submitted to the Human Rights Council and Zimbabwe is scheduled for its review in January 2022.

“Furthermore, the Report on the International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination was also submitted to the Treaty Body.

“The reports are on the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights are anticipated to be submitted to respective Treaty Bodies by the end of November 2021,” said Minister Ziyambi.

In line with the provision for access to justice for all, Judicial Services Commission has also continued the decentralisation of the courts to the districts, with plans to establish Magistrates’ Courts in high-density areas such as Epworth, Budiriro, Enthumbane, Nkulumane and Glen Norah.
