SPEEDY Dangamvura-born Caps United winger Phenius Bhamusi, whose name is part of the list of players that will do national duty against Somalia in a World Cup preliminary round two-legged qualifier, says he is aiming at nothing less than justifying the new Warriors technical department’s faith in him.

Even though the 28-year old is yet to hit the target, for Bhamusi, the national team call-up was not much of a surprise, given his fine run that saw the diminutive winger providing an impressive tally of nine assists so far this season for his club.

“I was not really surprised when I heard my name on that list. I expected it. I have been playing well and I also felt that I deserved a chance,” said the former Mutare United player in an interview with Post Sport this week.

Apparently this is his second national team call-up after making his Warriors debut in a CHAN assignment in Mauritius recently.

“It is an honour to be called for national duty. It is every player’s dream especially when you are playing in the local league. This is my second assignment after the game against Mauritius in a CHAN tournament,” he said.

The former Triangle attacking winger, gifted with pace and amazing ball controlling aptitude, says he will certainly work hard to justify the faith in him shown by the new Warriors’ technical department.

“It is not every time that you get a chance to represent the nation. When you get that chance you need to perform well. There is no room for excuses. I am going to work extra hard to ensure that I impress those that showed faith in me,” said Bhamusi.

Meanwhile, Bhamusi’s homeboy and Triangle FC forward Anelka Chiwandire made it into coach Tonderai Ndiraya’s Young Warrior’s provisional squad.

Chiwandire — a product of the Sakupwanya tournament — a tournament meant for schools in Mutasa district, went on to play for the now defunct Watsomba based Eastern Region Division One side Africa Trust.

Ndiraya called up a provisional 27-member squad to prepare for their game against South Africa on September 6 across the Limpopo and September 10 at Barbourfields Stadium.
