A Mutare woman who has been suffering untold physical and emotional abuse at the hands of her husband has had enough and made a police report after discovering a live bullet in his vehicle.
Shamilla Chateiwa (23) of Hobhouse 1 is convinced that her estranged husband, Tinashe Sigauke (26) — who has a documented history of abusing her — wanted to use the bullet to harm her.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxon Chananda confirmed the case. He said Sigauke is facing charges of unlawfully possessing firearm ammunition.
“The two are on separation due to the accused’s abusiveness. On February 13, the accused person drove home drunk.
“Upon arrival at the gate, he hooted. Chateiwa went outside to attend to Sigauke.
“Sigauke opened the car door and pulled a black plastic bag from the door panel. As he was doing so, a bullet fell from the plastic bag and Chateiwa noticed it and picked it up,” said Inspector Chananda.
She put the bullet in her pocket and went back inside the house where she hid it in the wardrobe without confronting the accused about it.
“Three days later, Chateiwa went to seek advice from her relative, Lovemore Razerera, who is a former Zimbabwe National Army officer. Upon seeing the bullet, Razerera took the complainant to ZRP Hobhouse Base and made a police report,” he said.
Sigauke was arrested and when detectives carried out some investigations, they discovered that the bullet was a 7.62mm x 39mm AK 47 round.
Sigauke failed to give a satisfactory answer on the source of the bullet.
