A Mutambara family is now dreading night time as they always wake up with their heads and private parts clean-shaven.

When they relieve themselves in a bucket, the urine vanishes into thin air during the course of the night.

The family believes that the avenging spirit of a toddler who drowned in a river in 1999 is behind the mysterious occurrences.

Narrating the episodes to The Manica Post, Amos Simango said a prophet told them that the mysterious events are being caused by the avenging spirit of a two-year-old whose death was allegedly caused by his sister-in-law, Lettie Chipatiso.

The family appeared before Acting Chief Mutambara last week on Saturday, a few days after appearing at Mutare Civil Court where Chipatiso was granted a protection order against the Simangos.

Simango said they are now used to waking up with shaved private parts and heads due to Lazarus’ avenging spirit.

He said they have lost respect and dignity in the community as everybody now knows about their ordeal.

“This woman (Chipatiso) is evil. She does not care about the mysterious things affecting us as a family. Our private parts and heads are being shaved by an avenging spirit. We have resolved to stay with clean-shaved heads and private parts.

“Our urine disappears from the buckets during the night. When we wake up, the buckets are dry, even though we would have relieved ourselves in them. When we urinate outside, the urine mysteriously evaporates.

“We need help. Chipatiso is using the civil court to stop us from pursuing this issue to its logical conclusion,” said Simango.

He further stated that his children are suffering from mysterious ailments, with doctors failing to diagnose their illnesses.

“l have been told that they need more blood, but l do not know the exact disease they are suffering from. However, a prophet told us that an avenging spirit is behind all this. The avenging spirit is also confirming this when it manifests on my daughter-in-law,” said Simango.

As if on a cue, Simango’s daughter-in-law, Primrose Mukwada immediately got into a trance and wailed loudly, accusing Chipatiso of causing his death for ritual purposes.

“Mai Dillon (Chipatiso) used me for rituals to enhance her business. She cast an evil spell on me, thereby leading to my drowning. She has been using me all along, but I am now fed up. I need to rest.

“For long, she has been trying to conceal the truth, but enough is enough. I will show you where my relatives are when you are ready to appease me. This woman is wicked, she killed me,” said the teary Mukwada.

Mukwada’s husband, Trust Simango begged the court for intervention.

“I am afraid that she might die because she has not been eating for days. Chipatiso should confess so that my wife gets back to being normal. This spirit is haunting my wife and her family might punish me for that. We need help,” he begged.

However, Chipatiso denied that she had a hand in Lazarus’ death.

She claimed that she was in the company of another woman, Tsverukai Mwoto, when the child died. The police ruled out any foul play.

“I swear to God, I never caused the death of this child. Lazarus was still alive when he was retrieved from the water a few hours later. I went with him to the river, but I did not kill him. He died shortly after being found and his mother exonerated me from any wrong-doing in the presence of the police.

“I am also not aware what is causing the family’s shavings. In fact, my father-in-law is behind all this,” said the woman.

She begged Acting Chief Mutambara to allow them to consult spiritual healers so that the truth can be revealed.

Acting Chief Mutambara adjourned the matter to tomorrow (Saturday) so that the late Lazarus’ relatives can be in attendance.
