POPULAR Honde Valley comedian, Bambo Tito is resuming his public performances after a long break due to the Covid-19 pandemic and wants to use art to tackle the growing challenge of suicide among men.

Born Andrew Chingobe, Bambo Tito has grown to be a popular figure in Manicaland’s comedy circles where he uses comedy to tackle societal problems that include gender based violence.

Bambo Tito regularly tours schools in the province and stages performances at public halls to raise awareness about pertinent issues.

One of his most popular skits on GBV, which is titled ‘Bambo Tito 2’, has proved to be popular among viewers.

It amassed 48 000 views on YouTube in a period of two months.

Bamb Tito is well-known for his deep Manyika accent.

He believes that the Manyika culture treats women as subjects to their husbands and this has seen them being exposed to GBV.

In an interview, Bambo Tito said that he is concerned with the growing number of men committing suicide over marital disputes and wants to use comedy skits to help men handle their problems.

“Acting is a medicine that can cure any disease,” he said.

“I am mainly focusing on tackling this new trend whereby men are committing suicide after discovering that their wives or girlfriends are cheating on them.

“The challenge with men is that they do not share their problems with fellow men. They feel they are the only ones in those situations, yet many others have similar challenges.”

“I have decided to focus on that and enlighten men on issues related to stress and anger management through drama,” said Bambo Tito.

Zimbabwe has one of the highest suicide rates in the world. Mental health experts say the situation was aggravated by job losses as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
