YOUNG athletes from across the country have begun registering for the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) 2025 Junior Athletics Championships, scheduled to take place on April 12 at White City Stadium in Bulawayo.

The event is expected to draw a large number of participants, making it one of the largest junior athletics competitions in the country.

 

The championship will provide opportunities for national selectors to identify promising athletes for future regional and international competitions.

This premier event will bring together young athletes from across Zimbabwe to compete in various track and field disciplines, showcasing the country’s emerging sports talent.

The NAAZ junior championships serve as a vital platform for identifying and nurturing future athletics champions.

 

The event is open to clubs, schools, colleges, universities, and individual athletes, with an exciting line-up of events including sprints, middle- and long-distance races, hurdles, relays, jumps, and throwing events.

The entry fee is US$2 per event and US$4 per relay team. Registration deadline is April 4, 2025.

Speaking about the championships, NAAZ secretary-general, Cynthia Phiri said all schools, clubs, and institutions are invited to participate and give their athletes the opportunity to gain valuable competition experience and exposure.

“This championship serves as a vital stepping stone for young athletes aspiring to compete at higher levels. We extend an invitation to all schools, clubs, and institutions to take part and provide their athletes with the chance to gain invaluable experience and exposure,” she said.

Phiri said athletes must register by 4 April 2025, as no registrations will be accepted on the competition day.
“Payments should be made via Ecocash merchant code 021891, with proof of payment and completed entry forms submitted to Watson Madanyika,” she said.

Following a stellar performance in the National Cross Country competitions, young athletes from Manicaland aiming to extend their fine form in this annual athletics contest.

Manicaland Athletics Association Board chairman, Joshua Matume, expressed confidence that they will secure a significant number of medals at the national event.

“We have several athletes who have already commenced preparations for the 2025 Junior Athletics Championships. After an excellent display in the National Cross Country competitions, we have no doubt that our young athletes will continue to excel and bring home a good number of medals,” said Matume.
