A DANGAMVURA man lost his vehicle to three masked carjackers who pounced on him as he was parked in a fuel queue at Mutare’s Puma Service Station.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the incident.
Inspector Kakohwa said on March 18 at around 7pm, Jethro Chimbiro and his friend Farai Chipenzi parked the car at the service station and spent the night there.
“The following day around 5am, three carjackers approached the two as they were sleeping in the car. One of them produced a pistol and ordered Chimbiro and Chipenzi out of the car.
“The carjacker pointed the pistol at Chimbiro’s head and ordered him to surrender the car keys,” revealed Inspector Kakohwa.
After getting the keys, the three carjackers sped off in Chimbiro’s Nissan Hardbody vehicle, registration number AAX5141.
The vehicle is valued at US$4 500 and is yet to be recovered.
Investigations are still in progress.
“In view of the increase in armed robbery cases, we urge members of the public to be on high alert. They should keep contacts of their nearest police stations. They should also report any suspicious movements, especially in residential areas,” said Inspector Kakohwa.
