RUSAPE-BASED social soccer team, All Stars had all it takes to be crowned champions after walloping Rusape Crackers in an explosive Africa Day social soccer tournament that was played at St Dominic’s and Mutare Girls High Schools last Thursday.

The tournament was organized by host team, Chipolopolo FC.

Africa Day is celebrated every year on May 25, and it is an opportunity to celebrate African diversity and success, and to highlight the cultural and economic potential that exists on the African continent.

The finals pitting all Rusape teams had their own share of drama after tempers flared following some rough tackles and dangerous playing between several players from both teams.

However, All Stars proved superior and won the final match 3 – 0 to come out tops.

Favourites Chipolopolo FC who played purposeful football during the whole tournament faltered when it mattered most and lost in the semi-finals.

Not even the football dexterity and nimble footedness of exciting players like Knowledge ‘Zizou’ Musemburi, Tinashe ‘Salah’ Bunya, Innocent ‘Mpenjani’ Ndebele, Blessing ‘Bhule’ Matewerei, Godfrey Madziva and Bangwe could save the team from being booted out.

All Stars boasted of ever green players such as Tawanda “Kiwa” Mutungwe, Byron Murai, Tendai “Big Ro” Sithole, John “Kobes” Hore, Tichaona Kamba, and they fired their team to the Promised Land.

All Stars chairperson, Shungu ‘Boss Lady’ Chidawanyika, was elated with the result.

“It was a very competitive tournament and we are excited that we came out tops. Our team played their best football and we are happy that we are getting better with time like wine.

“We are looking forward to having more tournaments as such matches promote wellness. Social soccer is getting more popular by each day, which is a positive development in building synergies,” she said.

The well-attended and fun-filled tourney saw corporates and individuals marketing their services and products.

The six participating teams also included Hauna Legends from Honde Valley, FC Muriwo and Nyanga Legends.
