THE second edition of the potentially exciting All Stars Weekend basketball tournament kicks off tomorrow at Mutare Boys High School courts.

The event starts at 12pm.

Manicaland Basketball Association (MBA) had shelved the event for three years due to financial constraints.

Tournament organiser Innocent “Stolz” Sithole said they are looking forward to a better and more exciting event.

“This year the tournament will be bigger and more competitive. It is an event that worldwide is bringing the basketball family together and have a weekend of fun. We had shelved it for three years but we are back this time.

“We have divided the top players in the league into two teams that will compete against each other — old school and new school. For the ladies we have red and blue teams playing each other. Our curtain-raisers are the Rising Stars-Under-20 playing against the Legends,” he said.

Participants will also take part in slam dunk contest and three-point shootout. There will be a lot of entertainment from local artistes and top deejays.

Meanwhile, Mercenaries continue to dominate the MBA. They are on top of the log table with a total of 14 points from seven games that they have played.

Chiefs are second with the same number of points after playing eight games.

In the ladies’ category, Wolves are topping the log with 10 points out of five games while Legends are second with the same number of points from eight games.

Chikanga Hustlerz are the log leaders in the developmental league with five points.
