RISING Afro-fusion artiste, Vengai Godfrey Chiunya, has released his debut album, Ndakabatwa which is expected to take the entertainment circles by storm.
The album contains seven tracks, Wakundwanei, Hapana Changu, Sahwira, Kubatwa, Tapara, Mutupo and Unoita Madiro, which all carry important commentary on social and cultural issues affecting people’s day-to-day lives.
Chiunya, who is based in Nyazura, began his musical journey way back in 1999 in Mutare, where he used to entertain guests and pleasure seekers at parties and social gatherings, but could not get a chance to record his songs.
The artiste is excited with the way his music is being embraced in social circles.
He said his music is inspired by legends like Oliver Mtukudzi, Thomas Mapfumo and Progress Chipfumo.
“I chose this type of traditional music to preserve our true African identity. Our people are getting lost by following other people’s cultural etiquettes and lifestyles. I am using music to bring back the values of our African tradition.
“I was inspired to pursue music by Mike Mopo, Oliver Mtukudzi, Thomas Mapfumo and Progress Chipfumo. I chose Afro-fusion because it carries everything that can make people feel the music deep down their hearts, and allows the music to express itself without limits. We wish also to revive our African sound which is missing these days.
“Since I am an upcoming artiste, I am very open to work and produce collaborations with other established artistes to grow my career,” said Chiunya.
