A 23-YEAR-OLD Chimanimani man has dragged his elderly grandfather to court as he is accusing him of emotionally abusing him and his younger siblings following their father’s death.
Admire Manyere told the court that the 84-year-old Josphat Manyere has been emotionally abusing him and his minor siblings for the past few years.
He said Josphat is in the habit of telling them that their divorced mother was a commercial sex worker and therefore they do not belong to his family.
He said their grandfather calls them names and has sold their late father’s homestead as a way of forcing them to go and stay with their mother in Rusape.
“He sold our father’s homestead and wants us to vacate the premises to pave way for the new owners. This is the only home we have known since childhood, we have nowhere to go,” said an emotional Admire.
He also told the court that Josphat has confiscated the farming land and orchards that they inherited from their father.
Admire argued that his grandfather’s actions are causing emotional pain to his minor siblings, thereby disturbing their concentration when schools were still open.
However, Josphat dismissed the claims as blatant lies.
“This boy is a liar. Why would I kick my family out?
“They are my son’s children and I love them. It is their mother who is influencing them.
“She was divorced way back because of her promiscuous behaviour and now she is telling lies to these children.
“Now that my son is dead, she wants to come back. I will not allow that to happen,” said Josphat.
Mutare magistrate, Ms Notebulgar Muchineripi ordered Josphat to be at peace with his grandchildren, not to harass, insult or assault them.
