A Mutare armed robber who is serving 63 years behind bars has been slapped with an additional four years for another robbery case committed in Rusape.

Arnold Munyaradzi Mapani Buwu (46) of Natview Park did not waste the court’s time and pleaded guilty to one count of robbery when he appeared before Rusape magistrate, Miss Ruth Moyo.

State prosecutor, Mr Benoni Makuvire said Buwu, in the company of his accomplice Amos Nyaira (now late), got away with goods valued at $35 000 after robbing a shopkeeper at Nyabadza Business Centre.

“On June 1, 2020 at around 7.30pm, Millicent Mbutsa locked her shop and secured everything. On June 2 around 1am, Buwu and Nyaira went to the complainant’s shop armed with a hammer, a machete, and an iron bar. They broke the door to gain entrance.

“The accused person threatened the complainant and her husband with death and demanded cash from them. They then robbed them of various groceries and property before going away. The complainant later made a police report,” said Mr Makuvire.

On July 23, detectives from CID Mutare arrested Buwu who was in possession of Mbutsa’s cellphone.

Buwu then led detectives to the recovery of a solar invertor and a hair clipper at his house. Mbutsa positively identified her property.

In total, property worth $5 270 was recovered.

The hammer used in the commission of the offence was also recovered from Buwu.
