CHIPINGE Town Council has received $36 million from Government under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP).

The money will be channelled towards the rehabilitation of the Glow Petroleum to GMB Road ($3.8m), the Chinheya-Gaza E Road ($17m) and the Thiba-Bundu Road ($15.2m).

The Thiba-Bundu Road is being done by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, while Butimen Resources and Earthgrade will work on the other two roads.

In an interview, acting Chipinge Town Secretary, Mr James Mutemera confirmed the development and said work is already underway.

“I can confirm that Chipinge was allocated $36m under the Emergency Roads Rehabilitation Programme. The money received will be used for three projects.

“The money will be used for pothole patching, shoulder widening, culvert construction and resealing,” he said.
Mr Mutemera said on the Chinheya-Gaza E Road project, the council is targeting to rehabilitate a 1.2km stretch at a cost of $17m.

“On this project, we will embark on drain lining, gravelling and culvert construction.

“We had engaged a local construction company, Super Power, but it failed to show up due to other commitments and we opted for the first bidder, Earthgrade, which was competitive.

“The remaining money will be allocated to the Thiba- Bundu Road which will be done by Butimen,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chipinge Town Council also received $5.1m under devolution funds.

The local authority has lined up Gaza A and Usanga Water Reticulation, acquiring a road compactor, water bowser, skip bin truck and skip bins.

The council also wants to construct the Usanga water reservoir tank at a cost of around $25m as well as a three-classroom block at St Kelvin Secondary School.
