TEEAGERS aged 16 and above are now eligible for vaccination against Covi-19.

They are now required to receive the Sinovac jab, the first to be approved for those between 16 and 17 years, at schools, colleges, vaccination centres and others.

Acting Minister of Health and Child Welfare, Professor Amon Murwira, who is the Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Minister, last night said specialist paediatricians had recommended that 16 and 17-year olds should now be inoculated with the Sinovac dose.

The vaccine is already approved by the Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) for adults.

“The Ministry wishes to advise the public that Covid-19 vaccination of the 16 to 17 years age groups has been approved,” said Prof Murwira.

He added that Government still remains committed to achieving herd immunity by year-end and urged the public to continue observing and upholding Covid-19 containment protocols.

Prof Murwira said Government is in the process of accelerating the implementation of the national vaccination programme.
