A TOTAL of 12 pool teams from across Mutare are set to compete in an exciting one-day tournament tomorrow (Saturday), promising to be a day of intense action and entertainment.
The event is slated for Galaxy, a popular sports and entertainment venue located in Area 16 in Dangamvura, where players will showcase their skills and vie for the coveted title.
Organisers of the event said fans should expect a thrilling atmosphere as local talent especially from the suburbs such as Dangamvura, Sakubva and Chikanga take centre stage in the highly anticipated competition.
Most of the participating teams are drawn from Mutare Social Pool Division.
These are Galaxy, Legacy, Sparks, Legends, Quality Zone, Amarv, Chidzere, Eye witness, Acid, Tenax, Reeds, Hillview and Sahara.
The tournament will bring together a blend of professional and amateur players in a potentially fun-filled contest.
Scouts from Mutare Pool League are also expected to identify standout players and recruit them in preparation for the upcoming season of Mutare Pool League.
The hosts, Galaxy proprietor, Arnold Gombakomba, confirmed that everything is set for the event.
He stated that a register will be collected from the clubs’ secretaries, with each club allowed to enter at least six players to compete.
“This is one of the first high profile pool contests since the curtaining up of this year. We are expecting a fun-filled tournament where players and fun lovers will converge, mix and mingle as we aim to interact and building synergies.
“We urge participating teams to be punctual so that the tournament does not spill into the late hours of the day. The competition is open to all, with the top performers of the day set to walk away with various monetary prizes,” he said.
The tournament starts at 11am, and it will run until 11pm.
The division’s acting chairman, Jonathan Chowe, said they will use the platform to conscientising each other against social ills bedeviling the society especially youths, such as the abuse of drugs and substances, violence, prostitution and thievery among other societal issues.
“The aim is also to have fun and socialise. We are hoping to host a peaceful and exciting event as we prepare for the forthcoming league. We urge participating teams to always maintain peace, come early and be part of the sporting carnival. We look forward to host similar tournaments time and again,” he said.
